There are parts of our lawn where I don’t want our dog to poop, so I’m trying some things. The first thing I tried was to follow the instructions from Wag https://wagwalking.com/behavior/why-dogs-dont-like-vinegar for the Vinegar method.

• You will need:
  • Spray Bottle
  • Vinegar (1 Part)
  • Water (5 Parts)

So I mixed 50 oz of water with 10 oz of vinegar and using an electric spray bottle for convenience. I’ll be trying to do this weekly, will see how it goes.

Warning: Vinegar works, but this will kill your grass so I stopped doing this.

Next I tried cayenne pepper powder:

• You will need:
  • Spray Bottle
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper per 10 oz of water

Note: I had to remove the filter from my spray bottle because it would get clogged from the powder that sometimes doesn’t get dissolved.

The cayenne pepper works, but I noticed my dog pooped in the spots I sprayed after a heavy rain, so beware of that because the cayenne pepper gets washed away and you will have to re-apply.

So far, I’m sticking with the cayenne pepper.

UPDATE: So far nothing above worked. My dog would wait until it rains or after a few days would poop in that area where I didn’t want him to poop.

CONCLUSION: Potty training is the only thing that worked. Everytime he would poop in an area where he wasn’t supposed to. I would bring him over there and point his face to the poop and scold him (DO NOT POOP HERE!!!). After a while he stopped pooping here.
